Many of us are guilty of wasting money on frivolous purchases each month, and many of us may not even consider these purchases as frivolous. However, most people spent a fair amount of money each month on things that we do not need and that are not necessary, and unfortunately, as pleasant as it might be to have the money to be able to do this, the current financial situation facing most households means that most of us really do need to cut back on the amount that we are spending each month on non-essential purchases.
Some households have found that their budgets are so overstretched due to rising food prices, high petrol prices, soaring bills, and high borrowing costs, that many could find themselves at risk of being unable to keep on top of essential payments, such as food, bills, debts, and mortgage or rent. This can impact upon your future hugely, and it is important that you find other ways in which to cut back on your outgoings rather than risking missing payments such as your rent, mortgage, or bills, or end up not having enough money to put food on the table.
There are a number of ways in which you could cut back on the amount of money that you spend each month, and whilst many of these may seem like insignificant changes they could collectively save you a small fortune every month on your outgoings, so your household finances will not be as strained and you will find that you have more money to allocate towards essential payments and purchases, so you won’t have to stress about your finance each month. Even if you are not struggling to this point by making some changes you could have more money to put into savings, and could enjoy a relaxing holiday each year with it.
Switch your bills and services: You could save a small fortune on your outgoings by switching your bills and services, and this can be easily done these days by using one of the many price comparison websites that are available. You can switch products and services such as utility bills, insurance services, mobile, broadband, loans, credit cards, and more, and you could find that you save a fair amount on each service or product by switching to a cheaper provider, which can save you a fortune overall.
Forget about buying your lunch every day: Many people buy their lunch everyday when they go to work, popping out to buy a sandwich and a drink and spending around £3 or £4 a day. Whilst this may not sound like a huge amount it adds up very quickly, and every week you could find that you are spending £15 to £20 on lunches, which could amount to £60 t £80 a month! It is a sensible, cost effective, and even a healthier idea simply to purchase items and make your own lunch to take in to work each day.
Plan your meals: Shopping can cost a small fortune each week or month, but you could find that planning meals for the week for your household could save you some money. This is because you will know exactly what you need in your shop for the week’s meals, and you can then go out and buy only what you need rather than wasting money on items that you do not need. Other shopping tips include to always write a list, avoid buying special offer items just because they are on special offer rather than because you need them, and avoiding going shopping on an empty stomach as you will otherwise be tempted to buy more unwanted items.
Cut out cigarettes: The smoking ban means that many smokers can no longer go out and enjoy a cigarette like they used to, and many have decided to give up because of this. There is plenty of support and help available out there these days, and by giving up the smokes you could really improve your health and save a fortune every month and year.
Cut back on going out: Although many of us love to go out for meals and drinks or to the cinema, we have to think about finances and this can become expensive if you do it regularly. Instead of going out for meals regularly get some fresh ingredients and cook a delicious home cooked meal for you and your loved ones. Instead of going to the cinema all the time rent some DVDs to watch at home, or better still go and trawl the wide range of videos and DVDs you will find in charity shops for just pennies in many cases – you get to keep these and there are some real gems amongst them!
